We approached this design along two main directions: The Mediterranean Climate, which amongst others gave us the traditional courtyard house. and Our Modern Lives, that may reward us-also keeping us away many times from the ones we love the most..
So we designed a house in three parts.
The Live-Work; a self-sufficient space capable of supporting work, guests, with its own storage, garden and children study room. We then moved on to the remaining part of the site-this we divided in two separate areas.
The Family Haven; complete security, privacy and enclosure. A canopy made in part of a light structure and landscaping creates a host of areas for the family to play, relax, share, cook and enjoy together or alone, filtering the strong Cyprus sun and inducing a conditioned breeze to the house. A treehouse. A pond, with green climbers cascading around it, a source of life in the middle of the garden. A cinematic experience framing the unique moments of family life.
The Sanctum-the sanctuary for the senses; Here the couple can share their peace in an intimate environment. A pool, good for exercise with a gym lapping by its side. A garden house to read a book in, to use for hobbies, ideal for young plants to grow in. Enclosed by it own courtyard and overlooked only by the master bedroom with it’s completely shaded patio for two..
The building envelope has been shaped to moderate the elements; sun, wind and light are filtered and directed to create pleasant areas that cost a lot less to run.Together with the work facility option, the house takes a good step in the direction of reduced dependence on externalities-a haven of peace and security for the whole family.
Paradise found.
